Emergency Assistance

The Emergency Assistance Program is a short-term rental and utilities assistance program administered through NO/AIDS Task Force (and other agencies in the state of Louisiana). The program helps low-income people living with HIV/AIDS to avoid homelessness during periods of illness and/or financial hardship by providing short-term rental assistance or utility assistance directly to the recipient’s landlord or utility company.

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the program, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a disability due to HIV/AIDS.
  • Have a documented income that is less than ‡_______ of Area Median Income
  • Have a monthly income that is higher than their monthly rent. Clients with no income will not be eligible for this program.
  • Have a rent at or below HUD’s Fair Market Rent levels for the area.
  • Have a current and valid, typed lease agreement signed by both the client and landlord or current utility invoice. Leases and Utilities MUST be in the client’s name.
  • Reside in the City of New Orleans or within Jefferson or Orleans Parishes.
  • Have referral through a case manager.
