NO/AIDS offers Free, Rapid, Oral HIV testing at a variety of locations throughout the greater New Orleans area. Testing is always done one-on-one with a state certified counselor, and the entire process from start to finish takes about an hour. Testing is done on a walk-in basis. There’s no need to make an appointment.

Please Note: Due to Mardi Gras, There will be no HIV testing & counseling Saturday, Feb. 9 through Tuesday, Feb 12. Our normal testing schedule will resume on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Mardi Gras Outreach Schedule 2013
We will be distributing safer-sex kits at the corner of Bourbon St. and St. Ann Street over the weekend leading up to Mardi Gras. Come by and see us!

Free, Rapid, Oral. Take the Test. Take Control.
NO/AIDS offers rapid, oral HIV-Antibody screening. This test works the same way that many other HIV tests work, by looking for antibodies to HIV, which develop in reaction to HIV infection. Just as with the standard test, a recent infection (within the last three months) may not be picked up by this test, and re-testing will be necessary. Talk to your counselor about whether you should get re-tested.
The test will come back one of three ways:
- Negative, meaning HIV anti-bodies were not detected. REMEMBER, though, this essentially means that the person is negative from three months ago and before. If there is concern about a recent exposure, re-testing after three months has passed is necessary.
- Invalid, meaning something did not work correctly with the test. This does not occur often but may happen as a results of a mis-manufactured test, not a good sample, or a number of other, uncommon, reasons. If this happens, the counselor will inform the client and another test will be performed.
- Preliminary Positive, meaning that the test found HIV antibodies in the specimen. Since this test is over 99% accurate, if it comes back positive it’s a good indication of infection. However, a confirmatory test MUST be conducted to diagnose someone as HIV positive. If someone tests positive, and the second test comes back positive, the staff will work with that individual to access care and support services either through NO/AIDS or elsewhere in the city, or where that individual may live.
Partner Services is a service offered through the Office of Public Health to help people inform current or past partners of their status anonymously. This service is offered to all newly diagnosed clients, or anyone else who is HIV positive and needs help letting partners know.
